Pastor's Thoughts

The Letter to the Hebrews, which is used as our second reading, makes this statement:
"He who consecrates and those who are consecrated have one and the same Father" (2:11).
These words take my mind to a quote from the SFO Rule of 1978:
"As the Father sees in every person the features of his Son, the firstborn of many brothers and sisters, so the Secular Franciscans with a gentle and courteous spirit accept all people as a gift of the Lord and an image of Christ. A sense of community will make them joyful and ready to place themselves on an equal basis with all people, especially with the lowly for whom they shall strive to create conditions of life worthy of people redeemed by Christ" (Art. 13).
Imagine a society whose members really feel and experience that they are truly and legitimately brothers and sisters of the Lord Jesus because they share his life and his home, his Father and his mother.
Imagine a society whose members actually and consistently treat other people as they would Jesus himself because they recognize the resemblance of Christ -- their own brother -- in the face of every other human regardless of color or cultural markings.
Imagine a society where courtesy, gentleness, joy, and service are the rule and not the exception, and where these are the "manners" taught by the Father and insisted upon in his household.
Well, this society has a name. It is called "Church." It is called the Body of Christ. It is who we are meant to be at St. Anthony of Padua.
-- Father Benet OFM

Two special messages:

2. Please make every effort to participate in the rare and unique event to take place here next weekend: the Concert by John Michael Talbot on October 11 at 7:30pm and the Prayer Walk for Peace on October 12 at 1:00pm.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY@@

About the Liturgy:
--compiled by Brother Richard OFM

"..Precisely because [the liturgy] is so central to us, and so important in the Christian journey, the faithful who come to Liturgy must be well disposed, ready to participate and actively engaged in the rites. It is not enough simply to follow the letter of the law, making sure that our liturgies are 'correct' and 'proper.' Much more is required of those who practice liturgical leadership: it is also their duty to ensure that participants have the opportunity to take part fully, to understand what they are doing, and to be enriched by its effects... Therefore, we, the participants in this Second Vatican Council, propose one guiding principle before all others as we approach the question on restoring and reforming the sacred Liturgy. The principle is this: In the restoration and promotion of the sacred Liturgy the full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else!" (cf. 11,15 Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy).

The Constitutions. Allen, TX: Thomas More Publishing, 1997.
